This last episode brings everything we have discussed, together. Amy and Fred Cusineau were the only people who would talk to me using their names. They take us through living with mental illness, the darkness of it as well as the transformation that comes with facing the illness, getting help and discovering that life is still rich and rewarding, filled with family and friends.
I have never felt shame about having a mental illness. I am third generation. I hope that listening to the series you will come to see mental illness like any other illness. You will know in your heart that mental illness is not a defect or moral weakness. Rather it is an illness in the brain. There is a physical component to mental illness. Mental illness knows no boundaries; race, colour, creed, culture, rich or poor, educated or illiterate.
