Igor Sadikov,  a student union leader at McGill University urged people on Twitter to “punch a Zionist today.” Despite calls for his resignation, something…anything…the Students' Society of McGill University (SSMU) decided to keep him on board the Good Ship Lollipop because it is acceptable to hate Jews at McGill and to spread lies about Israel to incite more hate.Even SSMU President Ben van der Ger refused to condemn the call to violence.

To add insult to injury-if that is even possible-a prominent member of the BDS Action Network asked SSMU Council how they could allow a Zionist to sit on council given SSMU’s social justice mandate. How dare McGill have Jews on council? Those evil people whose Torah brought the concept of social justice into the world???

Now don’t think for a minute that Igor does not have a conscience. He was recently made aware of tweets he had posted over the years and not wanting to be “blackmailed” over them, he has apologized.

“It has recently been brought to my attention that, between the years of 2009 and 2012, before I entered university, I published several highly objectionable tweets of a violent and discriminatory nature on my Twitter account. These tweets are currently being used to blackmail me, and so I want to address the situation honestly and openly.

“These tweets contained violent slurs and discriminatory remarks targeting racialized people, women, queer people, people with disabilities, and people with mental illness. One tweet in particular was an intentionally outrageous hateful comment toward Black people, and contained a racial slur and a reference to a hate group. While it did not accurately reflect my attitudes toward Black people at the time of its publication, this tweet was an act of violence and has caused significant harm to Black people regardless of my intent.

“I deeply regret the publication of these tweets and I take responsibility for the harm that they caused…

“Since 2012, I have developed my understanding of social justice through anti-oppression training, work experience, coursework, volunteering, activism, and independent learning. I stand firmly opposed to racism, sexism, heterosexism, and ableism, and my past behaviour is not reflective of the values that I now hold…”

Well Done Igor. You have repented. You have changed. Well, not really. Although you and the SSMU have come to the same conclusion that attacking any “other” group is objectionable and discriminatory; and past behaviour is not reflective of the values that I now hold when itcomes to the Jews and Israel-hate is appreciated, elevated and celebrated.

Well done McGill and administration and the faculty I hold all of you accountable as co-conspirators in this despicable behaviour. You are promoting Jew hatred on campus. You are participating in the normalization of Jew hatred-the oldest hatred in the world on your campus, allowing this hatred to be normalized.  The same for those who foolishly continue to give money to this poor excuse of an institution of higher learning.

All of this is taking place in the real world while the Canadian Government is busy in Chamber trying to pass Motion 103

(a)        recognize the need to quell the increasing public climate of hate and fear; (b) condemn Islamophobia and all forms of systemic racism and religious discrimination and take note of House of Commons’ petition e-411 and the issues raised by it; and (c) request that the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage undertake a study on how the government could (i) develop a whole-of-government approach to reducing or eliminating systemic racism and religious discrimination including Islamophobia, in Canada, while ensuring a community-centered focus with a holistic response through evidence-based policy-making.

All of this the result of the successful lobbying by The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is a prominent civil liberties and advocacy organization with over 15 years of professional activism and public service formerly known as the Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relatons (CAIR.CAN)

All this despite the fact that we are already blessed with protection FOR ALL.

Whereas Section 15.(1) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees that “every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.”

In the name of defeating Islamophobia, as if anti-Muslim sentiment and attacks are greater than against others-like the Jews in this country, our Prime Minister and his minions are spending time and money on special legislation to protect Islam. Igor must be dancing in the street.
