Dear Mr Prime Minister,
There is one priority for the Federal Government that supersedes all others-defense of our nation from external and internal threats. Why do you extol the virtues of a culture with an ethic that is diametrically opposed to ours? Our government, our Constitution our Bill of Rights from 1960 and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms from 1982 promote one ethic-the Judeo/Christian ethic that was brought to this country by the British and remains as our touchstone throughout our history.
Once again you are promoting Islam in our country. You continue to say that Islam is compatible with the West despite the fact that leading Muslim authorities say otherwise.
ICNA (Islamic Circle of North America) Canada is an Islamic nation wide organization striving “to build an Exemplary Canadian Muslim Community” by “total submission to Him [Allah] and through the propagation of true and universal message of Islam.”It emphasizes that “the propagation of true and universal message of Islam is only possible in Canada when whole Canadian Muslim Community transformed into a Dawah community by practicing and propagating the true Islamic Way of Life. With the vision of building an exemplary Canadian Muslim community it is very important to spread the word of Islam…”
On its official website ICNA Canada shares with its members, followers and supporters the book Riyad us Saliheen” where it says
“The political system of Islam is totally incompatible with western democracy.
“The concept of government party and the opposition is alien to Islam.
“All belong to one Ummah with only one goal and pursue the same aims and objects of Islamic guidelines!”
Shaykh Muhammad Sa’id Ramadan al-Buti until his recent death, was the leading Islamic scholar in Syria, professor and a retired Dean at the College of Islamic Law at Damascus University. He is the author of Jurisprudence of the Prophetic Biography, regarded as one of the best Prophetic biographies written in the 20th century. He wrote:
The theory that our religion is a peaceful and loving religion is a wrong theory. The Holy war as it is known in Islamic jurisprudence is basically an offensive war, and it is the duty of all Muslims of every age…because our prophet Muhammad said that he is ordered by Allah to fight all people until they say ‘No God but Allah,’ and he is his messenger. It is meaningless to talk about the holy war as only defensive, otherwise, what did the prophet mean when he said, “from now on even if they don’t invade you, you must invade them.”
Modern-day Islamic scholar, Ibrahim Sulaiman, says submission and peace can be very different concepts, even if a form of peace is often brought about through forcing others into submission. “Jihad is not inhumane, despite its necessary violence and bloodshed, its ultimate desire is peace which is protected and enhanced by the rule of law.” Armed responses are only permitted when all peaceful possibilities have failed. And once armed resistance begins it doesn’t stop “until the war lays down its burden” as Allah has mentioned in the Qur’an 47
The late Egyptian scholar, Sayyid Qutb, a prolific,well-respected author whose works are quoted in the Muslim world and influenced members of the Muslim Brotherhood has specifically claimed the conquest of non-Muslim states as “a movement to wipe out tyranny and to introduce true freedom to mankind. A true Muslim not only has no loyalty to any country “where the Islamic Shari’ah is not enforced,” but must be prepared to fight against such countries.
Italy expelled a Muslim cleric who said Islam “fully incompatible” with Italian law. “The decision was taken because the man refused to swear on the constitution before taking up Italian citizenship, arguing that his ultra-conservative Salafist Islam beliefs were “fully incompatible” with Italy’s fundamental laws.”
You claim to be a feminist and a man who stands for the rights of gays. How can you support Islam which is clearly homophobic, misogynistic, and intolerant of others? In far too many Islamic countries gays are hanged or thrown off buildings. Women are cloaked and treated as objects by their husbands and too often stoned to death. They have a belief in dhimmitude that is firmly rooted in their ethic, in their Holy Scriptures in their writings. In the 22 Muslim countries that exist today, Jews are not allowed. Christianity is not allowed in public. Justice includes amputation of limbs.
Why do you want these practices in our country? And Islamic practices are taking place Women in niqabs? The niqab is the symbol of oppression and suppression of women. And there have been far too many honour killings here. There are demands for prayer rooms in secular institutions, in our schools!
We have worked hard to remove religion from our schools. Christianity is no longer taught. The Bible is not read. How will these Muslim children learn to acculturate to the secular world if demands for practicing their religion take place in the public sphere?
There are demands for halal in Canada in restaurants. In Europe pork has been removed from schools and institutions because Muslims are offended.
There are threats of terror if one disrespects Allah. We have free speech here and one can disrespect any and all religions without fear of reprisal. This must be taught. Is it? Or is the message coming from our Leader that negative comments about Islam are not permitted.
You label it Islamophobia and this has led to a chill on free speech. Who wants to be called an Islamophobe? Yet Jew hatred is permitted. I have not heard you, Sir, speak against the persecution of Jewish students on campus, the increase in anti-Semitism in this country.
I ask you again to share with us how Islam brings diversity to Canada in a way that fits our Canadian values. We have Canadian values, Sir. they are entrenched in the Judeo/Christian ethic that underpins all Constitutions of Westerns countries. The ethic is in our 1960 Bill of Rights and the 1982 Charter of Rights and freedoms. We were a British colony and governed under that ethic.
Our values, Sir, are caring for the other, the knowledge that all people are born with equal interstice values, that life is sacred that we ahve free-will and submit to no one. These values make it possible for feminism to take hold, for opening Canada to gay rights, for insuring that our Native Peoples are treated as equals.
I have asked over and over for a list of the things that Islam has brought to the world; Innovation, medicine, literature-anything but there has been no response.
To promote an ethic, a lifestyle that includes lack of tolerance for the other; for women or gays, for Jews; that is overwhelmed by tribal warfare in far too many Muslim countries; that has a worldview that does not accept separation of state from religion, is troubling. It could lead to the undermining of our freedoms as we are asked more and more to tolerate the intolerable. As Thomas Mann wrote when it is evil that is tolerated, then tolerance is a crime.
So I ask again, why the promotion of this particular culture, and so often?
Where is the promotion of our Canadian values that I espoused earlier?
