Tzvetvan Todorov takes on identity politics.  He is trying to come to terms with the West's treatment of Islam and Islamic countries. Needless to say, he finds America wanting. I felt that in trying to encourage tolerance of Islam he inadvertently showed a lack of respect for the West. But it was a good read, thought-provoking, providing new ideas and ways of looking at the world. His definitions of barbarian and civilization are interesting.

His ideas to reduce intolerance are worth the read.
